Privacy and your data
Read without an account. Optional advertising and Google Analytics depend on your privacy choices.
Who is responsible
Comic of the Day is a Jump-IT side project. The data controller is Jump-IT UG (haftungsbeschränkt). Contact: contact@jumpit.ai. See our publisher details.
Delivering the website
Microsoft Azure processes the network requests needed to deliver and secure this website, including your IP address. Our purpose and legitimate interest under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR is operating a secure, reliable publication. Operational hosting and security records are separate from our readership statistics; they are not used to build advertising profiles.
Anonymous request totals
When a public page, RSS feed or sitemap is requested, we increment a counter for that page and UTC day in our existing Azure storage. The counter does not store your IP address, user-agent, referring site, query string, device details or an identifier. These anonymous counters use no individual event records, cookies, browser storage, fingerprinting, tracking pixels or analytics beacons. We cannot recognise returning readers, reconstruct visits, or measure an individual’s time on the site. Repeat requests and automated requests can count again. Totals help us understand which editions are requested and maintain the publication; they are not sold or combined with advertising data. The report covers 30 days, with older daily counters beyond 90 days removed in batches when the publisher opens it. Previously collected anonymous view and share totals remain as historical totals.
If your browser sends Do Not Track (DNT: 1) or Global Privacy Control (Sec-GPC: 1), our application skips this counter. Google Search Console supplies separate reports about appearances and clicks in Google Search. Optional Google Analytics is separate from these counters and is described below.
Sharing and external links
Copy and share controls work only when you choose them. We do not record those actions, access your contacts or post on your behalf. A chosen external service processes your visit under its own privacy policy.
The editor
The private editor uses an essential secure session cookie lasting up to 12 hours. Authentication attempts are limited using hashed network identifiers stored temporarily. Expired records can be cleared by the editor.
Your Google privacy choices
Google’s consent service displays and remembers your choices. It necessarily receives connection information and uses consent-preference storage to operate. Google’s advertising bootstrap is paused while the choice is collected: existing Google-domain cookies may be read, but Google states that their data is not used for ad serving or measurement and no new advertising cookies are set while paused. Where the message is shown, you can consent, decline, or manage options; closing the message counts as declining. You can continue reading after declining. Use Privacy choices in the footer to review or withdraw consent at any time. Withdrawal applies to future processing and does not affect the lawfulness of earlier processing.
Optional advertising and Analytics storage and processing rely on your applicable choices, including consent under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR and section 25(1) TDDDG. Necessary storage of your privacy preferences serves the requested consent service under section 25(2)(2) TDDDG. The consent message identifies advertising partners and purposes, including any purposes based on legitimate interests and your right to object.
Google Analytics
If you permit Analytics in Google’s shared consent message, we load Google Analytics 4 to understand readership, including page views and broad audience and device statistics. We send the page address and referring address without query strings or fragments. Google also processes connection and device information needed to provide the service. The Analytics tag is not loaded before the required permission, and is not loaded after rejection.
Analytics cookies use the cotd prefix and expire after 30 days without extending their expiry on each visit. User and event data retention is set to two months, without resetting retention on new activity; aggregate reports can be retained longer by Google. Google signals, user-provided data, detailed location/device collection and enhanced measurement are disabled. We do not send a User-ID, form entries, search terms or contacts, and we disable advertising-personalisation signals from this Analytics tag. Changing your choice pauses measurement; withdrawing permission removes this site’s Analytics cookies.
Advertising and Google
Direct sponsor images and text are served from this site. Our manual Google AdSense placements can show ads once Google approves the site. Google and its advertising partners may process cookies, device information and identifiers for delivery, measurement, fraud prevention and personalisation, subject to the choices and legal bases explained in the consent message. Rejecting the requested storage consent prevents this site from requesting its display units. Auto ads, sticky ads and full-page ads are not used.
Google services are provided for EEA users by Google Ireland Limited. Processing can involve Google and partners outside the EEA, using the safeguards described by Google. See Google’s privacy policy, information from partner sites and international transfer safeguards. You can also use Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Your rights and contact
For personal data processed in operating the site, you can contact the publisher to exercise applicable rights of access, correction, erasure, restriction and objection, and complain to your data protection supervisory authority. Our anonymous counters cannot be linked back to an individual reader. For privacy questions, use the contact in our publisher details.
